Modules for AMLA 610

Module 2

Students of the First and Second grades will watch the following PowerPoint of the four seasons and listen to the recordings for each slide. They will focus on:

Listening to the Arabic sentences that match the pictures;
Reading each sentence to improve their reading skills;
Improving listening comprehension by answering the worksheets that follow the slide show;
Recognizing some activities that we do during the four seasons;
Reinforcing students' knowledge from Science and Social Studies class about the four seasons;
Learning new vocabulary related to the four seasons;
Learning how to count in the Arabic language;
Making connections between pictures and words;
and, Creating their own PowerPoint about their choice of one of the seasons and record their narrations on each slide.

Learning how to create your own movie using Movie Maker;

Module 5

For the First and Second graders that I have, they are still primitive in the area of reading and writing, and therefore, I decided to find something to use on-line that would only use the speaking of the language. I found a program called yackpack.com that helped in this situation. Students answer my questions by recording their voice and using the target language. By using this, I focused on:

Using the target language to communicate outside the classroom;
Encouraging the students to use the Arabic language;
Improving listening comprehension by posing the question in verbal form using my voice;
Improve students' responding using the right answer to the question;
and, Engaging the students in the use of technology to learn a new language, rather than just use technology for fun and games.
